Chiron and Our Inner Wounds

Not many people may know who or what Chiron is! Chiron is a small planetary body that orbits our sun between Saturn and Uranus, and the first identified cosmic Centaur, as it acts like both an asteroid and a comet. In legend, Chiron was the most important Centaur in all of Greek mythology. While centaurs were generally considered savage and consumed by lust and violence, Chiron was not only civilized but cultured. Chiron is considered “The Wounded Healer”, as while he was a great teacher and healer, he was also twice-wounded in life: at his birth, when he was cast away for being a monster, and again, later in life, when struck with an arrow that remained embedded in his hoof. Therefore, Chiron survived with his pain, both physically and emotionally, representing our deepest wounds but also showing us how those wounds, when held as sacred within us, can also elicit our greatest growth, strength, and grace.
Chiron is moving signs this month, an important, albeit brief, shift into Taurus, giving a glimpse into the themes of security, self-worth, finances and survival. Chiron always reveals our wounds before our strengths emerge. Chiron shows us how to face challenges with compassion for ourselves and, therefore, for others as we grow.
While attempting to write a blog post about Discernment, instead, I discovered that the deeper story was revealing itself: how to approach self-worth as a sacred wound.
The other day, while reading the book Cosmic Health by Jennifer Racioppi, I got to the section on Chiron, where my own birth placement just so happens to be in Taurus (if I’ve never said it before, I’ll say it again: There are no such things as coincidences). It read, “using your voice and speaking your truth may feel scary… yet your challenge is to push through your resistance to pleasure and nurture yourself, regardless… you are here to teach others about embodiment - how to be grounded and secure within themselves.” (Here is this lovely book, in case you are interested in reading more! Bringing Human Design into the discussion, Chiron placements are interesting because while gates are named, they are not specifically “activated” on the BodyGraph. Rather, they are representative of the narrative pathway, a subtle body hint if you will, of how to walk your life journey toward healing your deepest, most sacred wounds. There is great pain held here, but also great wisdom in how to find beauty in the pain. (If you are not familiar with Human Design, then click here and find out!)
My Chiron journey is, therefore, steeped in passing over the threshold into Leadership by way of asking for and receiving support. So, I must explore where I might be settling for less than what I want or where I might be rationalizing, thus holding myself back from receiving or asking for the support that I need. If I can change that dynamic, then I may be empowered to truly create what I want in this life. There are blessings to learn, hidden in my past pains, which then can re-calibrate my heart towards receiving all the support I ever need.
And lastly, where is Chiron in the sky today? Chiron is in Gate 3, the Gate of Innovation, located in the Sacral Center (Sacral Chakra), where we have the ability to experience an idea as a possibility and then use imagination to create an emotional response. That emotional response calibrates the heart and attracts experiences and opportunities that match the possibility. In I-Ching, this also corresponds to “Zhun” or “Sprouting”, symbolizing “difficulty at the beginning” which merely highlights the challenges and obstacles that are common when starting something new, hence the recommendation to seek support and guidance to effectively navigate the challenges.
It is such a natural response to starting something new and carrying the excitement of future potential while simultaneously worrying that you are not enough. To put positive energy towards creating and manifesting an idea into fruition while questioning whether you have the resources available to even begin down the path. To feel determined to “make it on your own” and to ignore any signs of struggle in your pursuit, because that could mean having to ask for help.
I have been experiencing an idea all right! This blog, this new business venture into the spiritual calling I have been experiencing for decades, creating momentum to propel forward at breakneck speed, while also being hit with the word DISCERNMENT - metaphorically, yes, but also energetically. I see this word everywhere: in books, reels, news posts, magazine articles; the word is falling out of so many spaces that it is hard not to pay attention! I am constantly being shown how to discern, where discernment is needed, when discernment is needed, and why discerning is so important RIGHT NOW in this current timeline on planet Earth.
It has been begging the question: if Chiron is the wound, is discernment the antidote?
The AI says discernment is “the ability to judge people and things well, involving the skill of understanding and applying knowledge to separate truth from error and right from wrong.” My intuition is telling me that while this definition comes closest, it contains one critical fallacy at the start: “the ability to judge people.” Judging people, while a very natural response in today’s society, is the wrong answer because our judgement originates from our own perceptions of our self-worth. When we have a low value of ourselves, it is from this frequency that we apply a definition of someone else’s value. This is highly subjective and fraught with your own internal struggles - a materialistic measurement of “me versus we”. It also enables making determinations of their worth based on a situationally charged and conditioned response, rather than their authentic nature, leaving compassion out of the equation altogether. In the process, we side-step our own wounds, not acknowledging that we are commingling the truth of who someone is with the errors they make and behavioral patterns they exhibit when in a state of pain. In this way, discernment by way of a false judgement can be a poison to the already wounded.
What is lacking in the AI definition, and what is truly more important to heartfelt discernment is “keen insight”. When we factor in our own pains that may be distorting our opinions, it invites curiosity about where our past experiences are distorting our sense of self-worth. By assessing our own selves in light of a potentially unjust opinion of someone else, it allows us a moment of clarity about the size and scope of our personal measuring stick! Another way of putting this is what I often say to my kids, “How would you feel if this were happening to you?” Judgement, therefore, is nothing more than ranking and stacking someone into a hierarchical interpretation in correlation to YOU and how your own energetic frequency is in a healthy or conditioned state. It is indicative of where your own sacred wounds may be bubbling up to the surface of someone else’s experience, triggering your own pain and showing you where you have places to still heal, so that you can increase your own self-worth and therefore build your capacity for compassion towards others.
When we have more than enough, we use compassion to feed others. This doesn’t detract from our own well being; in fact, it increases our well-being!
The best definition of Discernment, therefore, is a grand opportunity for your own inner work on your sacred wounds towards a better narrative that then transforms the quality of your emotional frequency into a higher state of coherent value. The best definition is the one where we trust our bodies to know the right pathway forward into our own healing. The best definition is that of our evolution towards recognizing, nay, discerning, where we are giving in to our own hidden fears and traumas, causing a breach in our own moral integrity that hurts others further. Rather, it is where we are nurturing our own creative potentials into an aligned embodiment that extends sustainable energy towards others in such a way that they can discern their own value in contributing to the greater community. In this way, we change the “Me versus We” into “Me serving the We”.
That’s Magic.
